Regions Bank and Regions Foundation launch response to Mississippi water crisis

JACKSON, Miss–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Regions Foundation, an Alabama-based nonprofit initiative funded primarily by Bank of Regions, announced on Friday a $25,000 grant to United Way of the Capital Area to support the Jackson Water Crisis Relief Fund. In addition, Regions Bank has announced a range of special banking services to help customers in the region who are directly affected by the crisis.
DISASTER RELIEF
The $25,000 grant to United Way of the Capital Region will focus on short-term relief and long-term recovery needs for people and businesses affected by recent flooding that affected the main water treatment facility in Jackson, Mississippi, causing a water outage several days and leaving the community without a reliable source of water.
“United Way and its partner agencies are doing an incredible job of responding quickly to urgent needs due to the water crisis in the Jackson metropolitan area and central Mississippi,” said Marta Self, executive director of the Regions Foundation. “Additional needs will grow as our communities continue to face challenges obtaining sufficient water supplies, and the Regions Foundation will be there to support the ongoing work.”
Robert Leard, Metro Jackson’s market manager for Regions Bank, said the bank worked quickly to support affected residents with disaster recovery financial services. Moreover, one of the most valuable ways for the bank and the foundation to make a difference, he said, is to come together to meet the needs of the larger community.
“We are committed to serving and supporting the people and businesses in Metro Jackson and across Mississippi who are currently struggling with the lack of reliable, safe water,” Leard added. “At times like this, it is especially important for us to stick together and ensure that resources are available to those who need them most. We hope this $25,000 grant from the Regions Foundation to United Way of the Capital Region will make a meaningful difference for individuals and families as we navigate this difficult time together.
